My daughter had a tonsillectomy through the PMAS scheme. The efficiency and professionalism of Damien and the PMAS team was outstanding. They answered all my questions, advised me on the best way to proceed and assisted me with completing and processing the necessary paperwork, making the process and stress free and painless as possible.
Kingsbridge Hospital was exceptional, within weeks my daughter received the necessary procedure and within less than 24hrs, her procedure was completed and we were on our way home.
In my humble opinion PMAS is an amazing service and incredible value for money.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Damien, Michael and the team for their valuable work on behalf of members of the Defence forces. I truly appreciated all the support we received and for providing such an important and necessary service.

I am currently a member of the PMAS Cross-Border Medical Scheme. I needed my injury investigated as soon as possible, so I contacted Michael Murphy, a representative of the PMAS Scheme. Michael was able to provide me with the information and guidance I needed to start my journey to recovery,
PMAS provides you with access to the 5-star private hospital, Kingsbridge. My experience with Kingsbridge has been exceptional from the moment I walked in. I was made instantly comfortable and reassured with really high standard aftercare as well. My experience of both PMAS and Kingsbridge has made my process a lot less stressful.

Just wishing to express my sincere gratitude for your help, support, and assistance while using the PMAS scheme. From the moment I initiated contact with Michael, it went smoothly. He continued to inform me and help me understand the process throughout.
If there was a significant date coming up for me such as consultations, they would ring in advance and tell me what to have prepared and what way to pay for consultation and how to be refunded etc. (Refund took minutes).
My surgery date got cancelled and moved forward quite suddenly; this did not allow for the required 10 days payment in advance which was required, however Michael again put me at ease and worked on it immediately with success. The relationship PMAS has built with both Kingsbridge Hospital and ANSAC proved beneficial as Kingsbridge allowed the procedure to go ahead possibly with late payment and ANSAC were efficient and fast with the payment application and procedures they needed to do.
The stay in Kingsbridge topped an excellent process; my surgery went according to plan; the staff were excellent everyone from Dr Bailie to the chefs and service staff were amazing.
I would 100% recommend this entire process and again would like to thank you all for helping me through it. Especially Michael, who was always on hand to cover anything I was unsure of.

My experience with PMAS has been nothing short of excellent over the past 8 months. After tearing my meniscus over 3 years ago, I found myself on the HSE waiting list, facing the possibility of waiting years for a consultation. As my knee increasingly impacted my daily life, an Army doctor suggested exploring the PMAS scheme.
Within 3 weeks of reaching out to PMAS, I received a consultation appointment at Kingsbridge Private Hospital Belfast with Dr. Rodger Wilson. He thoroughly explained the procedure and scheduled my surgery date. Throughout the journey, PMAS remained accessible, ensuring I felt supported every step of the way.
A mere 5 months after first contacting PMAS, I found myself on the operating table at Kingsbridge Private Hospital Belfast, where the staff’s professionalism and helpfulness were exceptional.
The operation was a success, and my recovery went smoothly. Completing my final review appointment, I reflect on how different my situation would’ve been without PMAS; languishing on the public waiting list seems inevitable in hindsight.
I wholeheartedly recommend this scheme to every soldier in the Defence Forces; the unforeseen can strike at any time, and for a mere €1.50 a week, the peace of mind it provides is invaluable.

I applied for the PMAS scheme through PDFORRA and experienced a high level of proficiency and professionalism, especially from the PMAS scheme staff. The injury I had was a medial meniscus tear of the left knee, and I underwent my operation at Kingsbridge Hospital in Belfast.
The staff at Kingsbridge Hospital were excellent, from checking in at the front desk to the medical professionals who carried out the procedure; the service was of the highest standard.
I am very thankful to have received such professional service, and I am especially grateful for the work and time Michael from the PMAS team has afforded me to receive this level of care.

I’ve been a member of the Defence Forces for over 20 years, and in my opinion, the cross-border medical assistance scheme, PMAS has been the best thing brought to the table to help its members. PMAS not alone helped me they but they have helped my son also.
Let’s talk about my case first when I needed access to a consultant. I decided to reach out to Damien and his team in the PMAS office and they were there for me from day one and all I had to do was turn up. Thankfully, for me PMAS take care of all the administration and made my experience hassle free, in a very professional way. I have to say that from the first day I met the consultant to the day I received treatment, the follow ups from both PMAS and Kingsbridge have been first class. Cost free, hassle free and care with the highest standards by both Kingsbridge and PMAS.
Now, in relation to my son, who was suffering with enlarged tonsils and enlarged adenoids. This was affecting his sleep, affecting his eating, making him very hoarse and prone to throat infections. We were eventually referred to ENT through the public system. But after 6 months of no contact from anyone I rang up and was told my son would be on the waiting list and it could be up to 54 months before we could get a consultation so that speaks for itself.
I reached out to Damien and his team and asked him if they could help in any way, as we could let our son suffer any longer, as it was really affecting his wellbeing. Within 24 hours the PMAS team got back to me and said they could help. We got the referral letter sent on the 8th of December and we had a consultation the second week in January in Kingsbridge Ballykelly, and then a date set for the procedure in February.
For me it again was hassle-free and almost cost-free as I got a reimbursement from the HSE for almost all of my money back. Thankfully we now have our very happy little boy back.
I would really love to see the Department help fund PMAS in some way to allow them to cover the shortfalls for our family members. Many thanks to PMAS, Kingsbridge private hospital in Northern Ireland and ANSAC Credit Union.

In September 2023 my husband was due to deploy overseas, when my daughter started to show signs of tonsillitis. My daughter struggles every winter with tonsils and suffers sufficient pain and discomfort during this time.
My daughter was currently on a HSE waiting list for over 12 months and possibly waiting another 12 for an appointment with a Consultant.
My husband made contact with a PDFORRA Rep within his military Bks enquiring could he get our daughter an appointment in Knightsbridge Hospital through the PMAS service provided by PDFORRA.
Michael Murphy from PMAS made contact with my husband and I by email and explained the process step by step. The detailed information and attention to detail was exceptional.
I was quite nervous as my husband was overseas but Michael always answered questions.
Michael completed all necessary paperwork which was a great relief to us. After 4 weeks of initial contact with MAS my daughter had her appointment with the Consultant in Knightsbridge Private Hospital and within 9 weeks she received surgery to have her tonsils removed.
This allowed my daughter to have a normal Christmas without been sick or having sore throat which has been the case over the last number of winters.
As you are aware this is a cross border scheme and I had to pay for the appointment and surgery from own account.
Once I got all receipts and information I forwarded them onto Michael in MAS office and within 6 weeks of my daughter’s first appointment with the consultant and 4 weeks after the surgery, I received all my money back into my account. This was a relief as it was quite expensive but definitely money well spent.
I would like to sincerely say thank you to Michael Murphy and all members of the PMAS staff for the professional service showing to my family during this time.
This scheme that is provided by PDFORRA to its members is excellent and of a high standard.

I would like to thank PMAS for their assistance in getting my dad his hip replacement.
My dad had suffered for almost 2 years needing a hip replacement. He was told by the hospital that it would be at least another 2 years before he would even get a consultant to see him.
Damian got all the paperwork together and sent his application for reimbursement to the HSE. About 8 weeks later, dad got the most of his money back and importantly, dad was no longer in severe pain.
I’d advise anyone with a parent in pain waiting on treatment to contact PMAS and get their treatment in Kingsbridge Belfast. Many thanks to Damien and PMAS for all their help and to Kingsbridge for their brilliant staff and super facilities.

I would like to thank PMAS for their support for treatment I received on my ankle. I had attended Kingsbridge twice whilst a member of PMAS but also needed further treatment after I left the Defence Forces.
Few weeks after my consult PMAS successfully got me my prior consent from the HSE to proceed. Few weeks later I had paid the money and was booked for surgery. PMAS submitted my application for reimbursement from to the HSE and I got paid about seven weeks later. Whilst I didn’t get all the money back I was glad to get the treatment so quickly.
I’d like to thank Kingsbridge for my three surgeries and also thank PMAS for all their help..
The PMAS scheme in my personal opinion is one of the best things a soldier can pay into.
The DF as a whole will not give you the service and medical assistance that is needed for the job we do on a day to day basis. I was injured badly on a DF exercise that was the fault of the kit and equipment I was issued and if it was not for the PMAS scheme I would still be suffering.
For anyone wondering about how effective the PMAS Scheme is,
I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for joining PMAS.
For last 5 years I have suffered with my back.
I would like to share my experience with PMAS Scheme,
I had been struggling with consistent pain in my right knee where every step was a dart of pain not severe but enough that my quality of life was suffering.
PMAS is an excellent scheme to get Quality Treatment
Much quicker than the normal patient Pathway. For members of PDFORRA its only €1 a week,it’s amazing.
I was in need of a hernia repair procedure
I was on the public waiting list I had no timeline as to when my operation would be carried out. I signed up for PMAS and within 6 months I had my hernia repair completed and back to my normal routine.
After years of ongoing knee problems I joined PDFORRA MAS scheme
after a work colleague recommended it to me. The support I got from day one was fantastic. I have to say a big thank you to Damien who assisted me every step of the way and made the whole process as simple as possible.
I am writing to, firstly say thank you for facilitating my Hip Replacement
with the Cross Border Initiative, which was done in the Kingsbridge private hospital in Belfast.
I heard of the Cross Border Medical Scheme through a work colleague.
With the public system I would having being looking at a minimum of 4 years before I would have my knee surgery.
I recently received treatment under the PDFORRA MAS.
I can confirm that the quality of service is absolutely 1st class and I would recommend that all other ranks personnel should sign up to this scheme.
I underwent knee surgery in April of this year.
From start to finish the help I received from Damien was fantastic. Every step of the procedure was explained by Damien and the staff at Kingsbridge Hospital in Belfast.
Since I joined PDFORRA MAS and from my initial consultation in October
to my operation in February it took just over four months in Kingsbridge hospital.
